Now, there is a major legal action against Coca-Cola and the American Beverage Association. They are being accused of false advertising, which intentionally deceived American consumers about the health implications associated with drinking sugar-laden beverages. Two preachers are the support for this new lawsuit. In the lawsuit, they claim this is a matter of life and death for the African-American community.
The two pastors, Delman Coates and William Lamar, allege in the lawsuit that Coca-Cola Company and the American Beverage Association worked dishonesty to create false advertising, in a lawsuit filed in Washington, D.C. The preachers were joined in the lawsuit by the public health group Praxis who noted that the Coca-Cola Company completely ignored the mounting evidence that sugar-laden drinks were directly linked to the rise in health-related problems in the U.S.A. The lawsuit claims material facts that prove, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that excessive consumption by Americans of sugar is directly linked to increases in obesity and the related diseases that include diabetes and heart disease. These diseases are now the largest killers of Americans.
Coca-Cola responded to these claims calling them meritless while acknowledging the company knows it has a role in helping reduce sugar consumption in the U.S.A.
Anyone who actually drinks a large amount of such sugary drinks is likely to get very ill as a result. The pastors say the Coca-Cola Company equates “joy” with drinking its products, while the exact opposite is more likely to happen, including severe illness and ultimately death
So to those of us who always grab a coke in lagos traffic, try grab water instead.
